Black silicon carbide 3um 5um 8um silicon carbide
Black Silicon carbide (SiC) is made from quartz sand and petroleum coke or coal tar, wood chips and other raw materials by smelting in high temperature electric resistance furnace . In the high technology non-oxide refractory raw materials , such as C, N, B ,ilicon carbide is the most widely used and one of the most economic material. It can be called corundum or refractory sand.
It is brittle and sharp has electrical and heat conductivity in some degree. The abrasives made of it are suitable for working on cast iron,non-ferrous metal, rock, leather, rubber, etc. It is also broadly used as refractory material and metallurgical additive.
Alpha silicon carbide (α-SiC) is the most commonly encountered polymorph; it is formed at temperatures greater than 1700 °C and has a hexagonal crystal structure (similar to Wurtzite). The beta modification (β-SiC), with a zinc blende crystal structure (similar to diamond), is formed at temperatures below 1700 °C. Until recently, the beta form has had relatively few commercial uses, although there is now increasing interest in its use as a support for heterogeneous catalysts, owing to its higher surface area compared to the alpha form.
