Silicon carbide (SiC) is made from quartz sand and petroleum coke or coal tar, wood chips and other raw materials by smelting in high temperature electric resistance furnace . In the high technology non-oxide refractory raw materials , such as C, N, B ,ilicon carbide is the most widely used and one of the most economic material. It can be called corundum or refractory sand.

It is brittle and sharp has electrical and heat conductivity in some degree.The abrasives made of it are suitable for working on cast iron,non-ferrous metal,rock, leather,rubber,etc.It is also broadly used as refractory material and metallurgical additive.

Applications for black silicon carbide

1. as an abrasive, it can be used as a grinding tool, such as grinding wheel,oilstone,grinding head, sand tile, etc.
2. As a metallurgical deoxidizer andexotic material.
3. High-purity single crystal, which can be used for manufacturing semiconductors and manufacturingsilicon carbide fiber.
4.It can be used as deoxidizer for steelmaking and modifier for cast iron structure, and as raw material for manufacturing silicon tetrachloride.
5.It can be used as high temperature indirect heating material.

6. Anti-wear lubricants, structural coatings, functional coatings, protective coatings, absorbing materials, stealth materials, etc. in the industrial field
7. Glass polishing, rubber tires and other rubber products, high-performance brake pads, product anti-wear lubrication, high-hardness wear-resistant powder coatings;
8. High-performance structural ceramics (such as rocket nozzles, nuclear industry, etc.), which can be used as ceramic knives, cutting tools, measuring tools, molds; special-purpose structural ceramics, functional ceramics, composite ceramics, engineering ceramics;
